Biking TIBET- A travel notes by bicycle from Lhasa to Kathmandu. -An introduction |
|
In Aug 1994, I and my friend Okuda covered 1,000 kilometer in one month with fully outfit from Lhasa, which is the largest city in Tibet, to Katmandu in Nepal. On the way to the road, we had suffered from altitude sickness and other symptom which have never experienced before. However we were favored with fine weather and reached at Katmandu without problems especially. In Oct 1997, I got a picture card from one of my friend who was going through the same route with us. And the card posted at Xigaze said... "I got information from a Japanese met in Lhasa. He said that a Japanese biker tried to go through from Lhasa to Katmandu died from an altitude sickness at Tingri. I got nervous when I heard it. So I will try to be carefully in biking the route."I am not sure this information is true or not. However it is necessary for you to have enough experience of biking or camping with fully equipment, if you want to travel the Tibet tableland by bicycle. Please don't overestimate your physical strength. It is easily influenced by functioning of the heart and lungs or physical condition and the whether and temperature. Please pay special attention to this and I wish you have a safety journey. |
